چکیده

Coal consumption in Malaysia and Indonesia is growing at the rate of 9.7 and 4.7% per year since 2002, respectively. The increase in coal utilization usually tallies fairly well with the increase in CO2 emission. The present study attempts at predicting the emissions of CO2 from coal fired power plants from 2005 until 2020. The paper also analyzes the potential of carbon capture (CC) program as a source of foreign direct investment in Malaysia and Indonesia. The perceived emission rate is based on the percentage of coal for energy mix and coal consumption for electricity generation. Results from the study shows that CO2 emission from coal fired power plants will grow at 4.1% per year to reach 98 million tons in Malaysia and 171 million tons in Indonesia by 2020. It is learnt that adsorption technology can be applied in coal fired power plants to reduce CO2 emissions in Malaysia and Indonesia. Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants incooperating a pre-combustion capture with the adsorption technology is one of the available options for new plants in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Vaporization and Transformation of Mineral Components in High CO2 Atmosphere of Oxyfuel Combustion

China is the biggest coal product and consumption country around the world. Lots of coal consumption resulted huge carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, especially for coal-fired power plant in China. Oxy-fuel combustion is currently considered to be one of the major technologies for CO2 capture in power plants. The ash formation mechanism and mineral transformation in high CO2 atmosphere is different...

Comparing post-combustion CO2 capture operation at retrofitted coal-fired power plants in the Texas and Great Britain electric grids

This work analyses the carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system operation within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and Great Britain (GB) electric grids using a previously developed first-order hourly electricity dispatch and pricing model. The grids are compared in their 2006 configuration with the addition of coal-based CO2 capture retrofits and emissions penalties from 0 to 100 US...

Two scenarios for carbon capture and storage in Vietnam

Vietnam plans to develop dozens of new coal-fired power generation units over the next 20 years. In order to reduce emissions, it may appear necessary to dispose of these plants' CO2 by burying it in deep underground geological formations instead of releasing it into the atmosphere, using Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. We show that CCS has a technical potential in Vietnam. To disc...

High Efficiency Electric Power Generation; The Environmental Role

Electric power generation system development is reviewed with special attention to plant efficiency. While higher efficiency is well understood to be economically beneficial because of fuel savings, its effect upon reduction of all plant emissions without installation of additional environmental equipment, is less well appreciated. As CO2 emission control is gaining increasing acceptance,effici...

Carbon Dioxide Capture from Coal-Fired Power Plants: A Real Options Analysis

Investments in three coal-fired power generation technologies are valued using the "real options" valuation methodology in an uncertain carbon dioxide (CO2) price environment. The technologies evaluated are pulverized coal (PC), integrated coal gasification combined cycle (baseline IGCC), and IGCC with pre-investments that make future retrofit for CO2 capture less expensive (pre-investment IGCC...
